Quercus douglasii is a deciduous tree that is adapted to drought and dry climates, and has an extensive root system to access water. This oak species exhibits masting behavior; all the individuals in a population will have synchronized episodes of acorn production. This is thought to be a mechanism to satiate seed predators so that some acorns can survive predation to germinate the following year. This species is susceptible to Sudden Oak Death disease, a plant pathogen that can have a devastating impact on forests. The CPP four letter code for Quercus douglasii is QUDO.
